BERNARD HICKIE | GARDENS & LANDSCAPES
Asterix Film Sets
Three large film sets were created in the historic settings
of Luttrellstown Castle, Slane Castle and Listoke Gardens in Drogheda.
The brief and direction for the
two garden sets was outlandish, whacky and flower filled, while the river Boyne set required recreating 200 metres of river bank reed bed and a jetty.
In all three situations, the majority of the material was brought in in the form of thousands of flowering perennials, semi mature trees, hedging, green roof Sedum matting and artificial flowers.
A whole acre of Miscanthus grass (grown for Biomass) was bought from a farmer and used to mimic river bank reeds on the river Boyne at Slane Castle..
